Taller Maya celebrates this collaboration with Mexican designer Joel Escalona and the great masters of the Mayan world for the creation of the new Síijil collection. The bond formed between Joel and the artisans allowed the birth of Síijil as a collection of sculptural and vibrant pieces, which motivated the rebirth of raw materials in timeless designs that pay tribute to elegance and innovation in artisanal creation processes

Artisan Assembly

The Haciendas del Mundo Maya Foundation, Taller Maya, Mexico Territorio Creativo, Design Week Mexico, and Caralarga have come together to create a space for exchange and collaboration with over two hundred artisan groups throughout Mexico to produce a collection that generates income for these groups, who celebrate and preserve Mexico‘s cultural heritage through the techniques they work with.

Noma, one of the most renowned restaurants in the world located in Copenhagen, is an important ally for us. Over time, we have collaborated on different projects such as the development of their hand-sewn henequen keychains, made by the artisans of the henequen sewing workshop, with themes from the seasonal menu such as Forest & Game and Vegetable Season.

Design Week Mexico

Vision and Tradition is an initiative of Design Week México y México Territorio Creativo, which links artisans and designers to collaborate and create different collections together. During the 2019 edition, Yucatán was one of the guests and we were selected to be hosts. The invited designers collaborated with the artisan communities that work on the techniques of: backstrap loom, jipijapa weaving, stone carving, sewn henequen, filigree, horn carving and warping. The collection of 10 objects was exhibited at Taller Maya Santa Ana.

Christian Louboutin

In 2017, we collaborated with French designer Christian Louboutin to develop the Mexican collection. For this project, more than 150 artisans who collaborate with Taller Maya wove applications with traditional motifs to be integrated into the design of a limited edition collection of 2000 bags that represented four months of income for the involved artisans.

Long Face

Ancestral is the jewelry collection resulting from the collaboration with Caralarga, a Mexican textile design and production workshop. The collection is inspired by the wisdom of nature. Using the artisan techniques of carving horn, macramé and sansevieria inked with medicinal plants from the region, we create unique pieces that explain the philosophy of caring for nature.
