The carving of wood, as well as stone, is another of the greatest artistic expressions of the ancient Maya. Today, artisans work sustainably with native woods from the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve in Campeche. As part of their preparation process, the woods undergo a long drying process before being worked and turned into unique pieces.
